Buying Parts and Maintaining Your Auto: An Expensive Proposition!

There is not doubt, parts, repairs and overall general maintenance can be a very expensive proposition.

To save on these costs, you may wish to try some of the less complicated repairs and maintenance on your own. For many of us who are auto-challenged, this is not a viable option unless it is a very minor job. Still some things can be accomplished under the guidance of a knowledgeable friend and it may even pay off to hire someone to show you the ropes. Once you learn some basic tasks you will be able to save on the future repairs, parts and maintenance costs.

Some repairs and part replacements you may wish to consider doing on your own are:

  • Checking the various fluid levels
  • Oil change
  • Air filter
  • Topping up fluids, oil, coolant, transmission fluid, power steering. Of course you must know where each of these are located and top up with the correct fluids!
  • Replace battery
  • Minor paint chip repairs
  • Keeping sufficient tire pressure

To a professional, these are minor indeed. Be sure to check the owner’s manual for the specifications for your vehicle and get some help where needed.

So when you do some of these repairs and maintenance, you will save money. You need to decide if you want to do these yourself or are willing to learn to them, if necessary. It can be costly if you do not do them right so it is highly recommended that you do your homework beforehand.

Well, those are some of the minor things that you can to in repairing, parts, and maintenance of your vehicle.

Take care for now,
